Colorado’s Air Pollution Control Division fined the Cemex Lyons plant in Boulder County $375,000 for multiple violations in 2020 and 2021, reported The Colorado Sun.
The cement plant was cited for broken filtering equipment, excessive downtime for pollutant monitoring systems, and failure to prevent or control dust plumes, according to the local newspaper. It also noted that the state agency is investigating undisclosed violations found in 2022.
“We’re pretty close to finalizing that inspection report and then headed toward enforcement,” Division Chief Michael Ogletree told The Colorado Sun.
In May, Cemex signed a consent decree agreeing to pay a fine for the earlier state violations, while not admitting any fault. “The consent order reflects the resolution of allegations of past noncompliance. Cemex remains committed to adhering to all local, state and federal requirements for our operations,” said spokesperson Maryssa Silva.
